My first experience taking photographs was making portraits of my classmates in the sixth grade.
I continued my self-study with photography while living in Japan for three years. After that experience,
I studied art, painting, and photography while in college, but I ultimately decided to earn degrees in English and Linguistics from George Mason University.
I teach in the Languages, Arts, and Social Sciences Division at Northern Virginia Community College. I have taught at Northern Virginia College for the past 15 years. In addition to teaching, I am working on various projects while hunkering down during the pandemic. I am making still lifes, creating sculpture from clay and metal, and continuing various grant projects centered on highlighting diversity in the community college setting.
